Head Safe Community Event

Concussions represent more than one in five Ontario student injuries treated by a doctor or nurse, but despite this, half of Canadians have little knowledge of what a concussion is. That’s why Scouts Canada and Hydro One are holding a free head safety awareness event for families to launch Head Safe – an initiative that will provide Canadian youth and families with resources and hands-on instruction to prevent, identify and respond to head injuries like concussions.

Free to attend with registration at headsafeottawa.eventbrite.ca, the event offers a variety of fun, age appropriate, hands-on activities and games with educational foundations designed for youth ages five to 12 and their parents. Interactive activities include a concussion simulation obstacle course, an egg drop game, role playing real-life scenarios and head injury first aid awareness. Participants will discover important safety measures to protect against head injuries, how to recognize the early symptoms of a concussion, what to do if they suspect they have one, and the six steps of when it is safe to return to play, with appropriate medical clearance.

A free barbeque lunch will be provided.
