Local event organizers, Wall Candy Art Expos and the Ottawa Dressage Festival, collaborate to run concurrent events at Wesley Clover Parks, where visitors will be able to explore over 100 booths with artists and artisans, and then go to see horses compete professionally and to music.
Returning to Wesley Clover Parks again this year, Wall Candy’s “Sweetly Affordable Art Fair” (SAAF) will be taking place on Saturday May 20th from 10am – 6pm and Sunday May 21st from 10am – 4pm. This year, SAAF will also be co-occurring with the Ottawa Dressage Festival, which is made up of professional equestrian competitions.
The sweetly affordable model ensures that the event is financially accessible for the broader community, by having free admission and free parking, and also by encouraging exhibitors to offer items for sale under $50, and to keep their pieces for all other works under $1k.
Visitors can expect various food vendors on site, including Stella Luna Gelato, and more! The Sweetly Affordable Art Fair is also collaborating with artisan market organizers, Ottawa Artisans and Square Lemon, who will be participating in the exhibition representing various local makers.
Wall Candy Art Expo has once again offered their Breaking Barriers program, which is designed to support artists and artisans who may face a variety of obstacles in the art world, including participating in shows where they can sell their work. The program is meant for people who identify as BIPOC, 2sLGBTQIA+, or who have a disability, and are facing financial challenges. This year’s recipient of a gratis booth at SAAF, is Metis artist Colleen Gray, who’s philanthropic dedication to Art for Aid is profoundly meaningful to the community.
Attendees of this year’s SAAF can expect to see over 100 artists and artisans all with one of a kind and handmade pieces. There will be a wide range of mediums and styles, including but not limited to: photography, pottery, watercolour, acrylic, oil, encaustic, resin, mixed media, jewelry, illustration, fabrics, and so much more. Taking place outdoors, at Wesley Clover Parks, there is ample space for visitors to walk around, shop, and take in an assortment of artistic creations, enjoy sweet and savoury treats, or saunter over to view horse riding competitions set to music.
Wall Candy is an artist-run small business, dedicated to serving the Ottawa arts and culture community, by providing unique art exhibition events, such as the Sweetly Affordable Art Fair.
