Speaking of breaking into vaults, here’s a list of 5 heist movies you definitely have to watch while you’re social distancing to give you tips on how to unlock a vault and crack some codes!
1. Ocean’s Eleven
How could this NOT be in our number 1 spot with such an insanely star studded cast? With George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Bernie Mac, Don Cheadle, and Casey Affleck, it’s borderline impossible for this not to be an incredible movie. Danny Ocean (Clooney), his partner-in-crime Rusty Ryan (Pitt), and their 9 other friends/crime specialists set out to perform the ultimate heist: stealing over $160,000,000 from the Bellagio Casino. We won’t give away the ending, but it’s safe to say their intricate and impressive plan will leave you feeling both confused at times and thoroughly impressed.
2. Ocean’s Thirteen
Although the Ocean’s Thirteen cast didn’t have Julia Roberts, it did gain a renowned actor you may have heard of – Al Pacino. OF COURSE you know who Al Pacino is (The Godfather LEGEND), and in this Ocean’s movie he plays Willy Bank, who coerces one of the Ocean’s (now Thirteen) members, Reuben Tishkoff, to sign over his ownership rights to their hotel-casino. After Reuben consequently suffers from a heart attack, Ocean and the rest of his group try to avenge Reuben by ruining Willy Banks’ (Al Pacino) opening night of the hotel-casino by having guests win millions of dollars of his money. Although Ocean’s Twelve didn’t score well with audiences and critiques, Ocean’s Thirteen made up for it and then some. Don’t miss this exciting ending to a wild trilogy with the original thieves!
3. Mission Impossible
The original Mission Impossible movie came out 24 years ago and despite it being out for 2 and a half decades, it still has one of the greatest heist scenes of all time. Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is part of the IMF (Impossible Missions Force) who were tasked to stop the CIA non-official cover (NOC) list from being stolen from the mole, Jim Phelps (Jon Voight). This action packed movie will keep you on the edge of your seat, and even it’s theme song, remade by U2 members Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr, was a smashing hit reaching number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Check out both the iconic heist scene and theme song down below, but don’t worry, this clip doesn’t spoil the ending. You’ll just have to watch the full movie to find out what happens!
4. Mission Impossible 3
Everyone’s beloved spy action star Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is back for a 3rd Mission Impossible movie 10 years after the original, and it definitely didn’t disappoint. Ethan learns that one of his protégés, Lindsey Farris (Keri Russell), had been kidnapped by a notorious arms dealer named Owen Davian (Philip Seymour Hoffman). Davian kills Lindsey and kidnaps Ethan’s wife, Julia (Michelle Monaghan), and says he’ll only spare her life if Ethan brings him the “Rabbit’s Foot”. We won’t explain what that means or if Ethan retrieves it as we don’t want to give away more spoilers, so watch the film and let us know if you agree that this movie deserves to be in our top 5 list!
5. Tower Heist
Although we wouldn’t have pegged Ben Stiller as the lead in an action heist movie, he certainly rose to the occasion while portraying Josh Kovaks, the building manager for an upscale apartment complex in NYC named The Tower. Josh (Stiller) finds out his penthouse tenant Arthur Shaw (Alan Alda) embezzled 2 billion dollars, which included the building staffs’ pensions. Josh devises a plan to break into a safe in Arthur’s penthouse to steal back some of the money, and assembles a team consisting of Slide (Eddie Murphy), Mr. Fitzhugh (Matthew Broderick), Odessa (Gabourey Sidibe), and Charlie (Casey Affleck). We find it ironic that Affleck’s character in this heist movie is too worried about the legal implications of getting caught, yet his character in the Ocean’s movies is all for the thrill of the crime. Overall, this may not be a movie you’ve heard of, but it should definitely be a movie to watch.
