Ottawa Police; surveillance photo of suspect involved in fatal hit & run

A fatal hit & run left a man in his 50’s dead in downtown Ottawa today.

The collision happened around 7:20 a.m. this morning (Thursday, May 16th) and Ottawa Police are asking for help from witnesses.

They are also asking for assistance in helping locate this suspect.

They believe the man seen in this surveillance photo, taken at the Rideau Center, was the person who was likely the driver of the abandoned black van.

The collision happened on Laurier Avenue West near Elgin Street.

The vehicle and cyclist were both travelling west on Laurier Avenue West.

The abandoned, heavily damaged van was located on the MacKenzie King Bridge.

 

Here is the description:

  • Indigenous man
  • 5′ 10” (178 cm)
  • Skinny with long black hair
  • Seen after the incident on a surveillance camera at the Rideau Centre
  • Was wearing a light-coloured jacket over a hoodie, blue jeans and white sneakers with two stripes on the side
  • Was carrying a blue backpack
