Actor Patrick Stewart returning to Star Trek

On Saturday at the Las Vegas Star Trek convention, 78 year old Patrick Stewart launched a HUGE photon torpedo regarding the next Star Trek series!

He’s going to star in it as Jean-Luc Picard!!!!!!!!

As a life-long Trek fan, and someone who’s watched The Next Generation and it’s feature films hundreds of times, this is mind blowing news!!!  I never thought we’d EVER see Sir Patrick in that role ever again!

There aren’t many details about his new Trek series yet, because it’s only in the very early planning stages, but here’s what we do know.

  • It will be available on CBS All Access (but could be put on a regular cable channel here in Canada, like the current series Star Trek: Discovery.)
  • The show won’t be a Next Generation reboot, but will tell the story of the next chapter of Jean-Luc Picard‘s life.
  • He probably won’t be a Captain, or even in Starfleet anymore, and will most likely act differently because of his experiences in the intervening years.
  • This series will take place approximately 20 years after the events of 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis.
  • No title or premiere date has been revealed.

Patrick Stewart’s Next Generation co-stars are pretty excited about the announcement as well!

Let’s just hope those same actors are excited enough to make guest appearances on the show, because that would be cool!!!
